Integration of CAD systems into the design loop
The derivatives of the parametrisation are required to fully integrate the parametrisation into gradient-based optimisation workflows, but for typical CAD systems these derivatives are not available. In this project the open-source CAD kernel OpenCASCADE (OCC) is differentiated using the Automatic Differentiation (AD) software tool ADOL-C from UPB. The focus for this project is to support the application of AD to the OCC software and to apply AD to the parametric layer in OCC.
This project is in conducted in close collaboration with ESR2 at QMUL and ESR12 at University of Paderborn.
Objectives:
- M1-M12: Integration of AD algorithm into OCCT. Secondment to UPB, (WP4).
- M13-M18: Integration of algorithm in the parametric system. Secondment to QMUL (WP4).
- M18-M24: Implementation of the design loop using parametric features. Secondment to ENGYS, (WP5).
- M24-M36: Feature shape optimisation corresponding to VW and RRD use cases, Secondment to VW, RRD. (WP6).
