Adjoint optimization of turbomachinery components under mechanical constraints
Most gradient based optimizations are single-disciplinary and may result in designs that are mechanically unfeasible though performing very well aerodynamically. Within this project, mechanical constraints will be included in the adjoint optimisation framework allowing to reach feasible highly performing designs. This requires the differentiation of the mechanical analysis including linear stress analysis and vibration. Also cold-to-hot transformations will be investigated. The concept will be demonstrated by using the developed tool in industrial applications.
Objectives:
M6-M9: Development of a fully parameterized CAD model of the solid part of the blade. (WP4).
M9-M12: Development of methodology for cold-to-hot transformation of CAD model. (WP4).
M12-M22: Computations of the sensitivities from stress and vibration analysis. (WP5).
M22-M30: Development of a mesh deformation method for the structural model link to CAD. Secondment to QMUL. (WP2).
M30-M42: Appl. with structurally constrained adjoint optimisation of turbomachinery components, Secondment RRD (WP6).
