Early Stage Researcher 10 at QUB

CAD-based optimisation with adaptive feature insertion

The project aims to extend current research by using the parameters which define the shape in a feature-based CAD model as optimisation variables.  It will aim to improve the performance improvement which can be achieved by automatically adding the optimum new CAD features to the model, to improve the manner in which the shape can update. It will also aim to consider the constraints imposed on a design from adjacent component in the product assembly, which are currently not robustly defined.

Objectives:
M4-M6: Investigating strategies for linking the CAD tools used in WP1 with existing QUB research prototypes. (WP4).
M7-M18: Investigating methodologies for adaptively inserting new features to a CAD model to improve the ability of the CAD models to create the optimum design. Secondment to RRD. (WP4).
M18-M26: Investigating the use of adjacent components in a CAD model assembly as geometric constraints. (WP5).
M26-M32: Investigating the use of parametric effectiveness as a means to improve the efficiency of CAD based optimisation Secondment to VW, ESI. (WP5).
M32-M40: Demonstration and evaluation of the IODA developments (WP6).
